A Shout-out to the Spangler Family

By Michael Pilarski, June 28. 2025

We are excited to have Julie Spangler and Maryn Spangler presenting at our 25th anniversary of the Fairy & Human Relations Congress. David Spangler has been a big influence on the Fairy & Human Relations Congress.

David Spangler presented at six Fairy Congresses between 2003 and 2014.  Julie attended with him every time.  2025 will be the first time for Maryn to present or attend.

David Spangler is one of the rock stars of the Fairy movement (if we could call it a movement).  He is one of the wise elders for the Fairy Congress. He brings us insights, wisdom and a fun, loving presence.  We love David!

While studying at Arizona State University to become a molecular biologist, a childhood contact with subtle worlds blossomed into a collaborative relationship with inner beings which resulted in his leaving the university in 1965 at the age of 20. He then began his career as a teacher and explorer of subtle and spiritual realms that he still pursues today, sixty years later.

Dscf | Gatherings | Celebrations | Workshops | Fairy CongressDavid was a co-director of the Findhorn Foundation community in Northern Scotland from 1970 to 1973, a Lindisfarne Fellow, and, in 1974, he became a founder of the Lorian Association. His work with both his non-physical colleagues and his Lorian associates has led to the development of Incarnational Spirituality.

David is a prolific writer and has over 58 books published on the subtle realms, Some are about the fairy realm and David has made a significant contribution to the recent literature on the Sidhe.  This makes him one of the most prolific authors on the fairy realms. The other most prolific authors on fairy/faery realms are Robert J. Stewart and John & Caitlin Matthews.   Robert “R.J.” and Caitlin have both presented at the Fairy & Human Relations Congress.

A book I would recommend to anyone working in the spirit realms  (subtle realms) is Subtle Worlds: An Explorer’s Field Notes, 2010. By David Spangler, Julie Spangler, editor.

David has also been a pioneer in writing about the Sidhe. Starting with his 2011 book, A Midsummers Journey with the Sidhe, his 2014 book: Conversations with the Sidhe. His oracle Card Deck of the Sidhe with Jeremy Berg; and in 2017, Engaging with the Sidhe: Conversations Continued.

Techno-Elementals, David’s 2012 book is the only writing I have seen on this topic. “Techno-Elementals” are subtle beings connected with human technology  and devices.  You might call them the “tech fairies”.

Juliespangler | Gatherings | Celebrations | Workshops | Fairy CongressJulie Spangler is one of the co-founders of Lorian, and has worked for 50 years with her husband David and others in developing an Incarnational Spirituality. They have children and grandchildren.  She has edited many of his books. Julia is a force in her own right,  we are so glad she is presenting this year. Her workshop is on: “Honoring the Human in the Human/Fairy Relationship. In our work with the Faery worlds, who is it that is making connection? We are not fairies, we are humans with our own unique and beautiful relationship to the sacred and to this wonderful world we have entered into. What is it we bring to the faery when we offer the hand of friendship and collaboration?”

Maryn Spangler, David and Julie’s daughter, brings a young perspective to the family tradition of working with the spirit realms and teaches Incarnational Spirituality through the Lorian Association. Maryn weaves an ingrained Incarnational Spirituality perspective with a decade of study and practice in the fields of mental, emotional and physical healing. Maryn’s workshop at the Congress will be on “Allying with the Lady, a Divine Feminine presence guiding us into a new era of conscious partnership with Earth and each other”.

Information about David’s Desk, books, and Julie and Maryn’s workshops and online courses can be found at: www.Lorian.org.

Let’s give a big round of applause

for David, Julie and Maryn Spangler.

P.S. David hopes to be able to join us at the Congress this year.
