Jan leads a twice monthly Weather Shamanism and Subtle Activism group in the Fairy Congress community. We had a bunch of new people join us this year so he wrote the following:
I thought I would write out a history of how this came about and a little about what we do, since we have many new people who are showing interest.
This group was started in the fall of 2020 when the astrological reports were all hinting at severe weather. And sure enough …. it’s the new normal.
We are meeting on the 2nd and 4th Friday of the month from 6.30-8.30 PM PDT on zoom.
In 2011 the Fairy Council did a shamanic journey about what the next steps were for the Fairy Congress. After a humorous berating that it would really help a lot if we loved ourselves more …. we were told by some helping spirits that we needed to learn how to work with the spirits of weather just like we had learned how to work with plant spirits. …. and we needed to learn that fairly quickly because “you have no idea what is coming around the bend”.
Lindsey organized a week long workshop in Weather Shamanism with Nan Moss the summer of 2012 and in the summer of 2013. Nan Moss is the author of “Weather Shamanism; Harmonizing Our Connections with the Elements” and is a graduate of the Foundation for Shamanic Studies. Lindsey and I took the workshops both years. In 2014, everything south of Skalitude blew up in what was called the Carlton Complex which burned 256,000 acres and remains the largest single wildfire in Washington State. We were working with interactive forest fighting websites and conference calls. I do remember that the rain “came in from nowhere” and that the wind changed direction and died down.
Fast forward to 2020 and extreme weather seems like an everyday “normal”.
One of the foundations of Nan Moss’ Weather Shamanism is to develop strong relationships with the weather spirits and find out what support they need in order to do their work.
Now, with radically shifting weather, some weather spirits are really confused about what their job is. This means that we need to be very creative and discerning.
Many of us are inspired by David Spangler’s writings on “Subtle Activism”, “Shamanism without Borders / Shamanic Tending for Trauma and Disasters”, and Sandra Ingerman’s “Medicine for the Earth”. How do we work to help balance energies in times of crisis? What are our roles as earth stewards? What effects the weather? What is weather? How do we work with the elementals? How do we tend to ancestral land spirits? When do you work with local weather patterns and when do we need to work with global weather patterns such as a jet streams and ocean currents? How do we keep an “internal balance” when the external world seems very imbalanced? And the list goes on.
The only prerequisite is you have a knowledge of shamanic journeying in that you know the difference between lower, middle and upper world, and that you have a relationship with protector and helper spirits. Weather working is done primarily in the middle World and you want to make sure that you stay clean and clear. If you don’t have these skills and you want to learn, I teach a “Shamanic Navigation” class that can help you with the basics.
This is powerful work. It can be a bit intense at times. It can also be joyful and ecstatic. and we have an amazing community.
Journey to meet Earth Beings. Stone Gnomes.

January 28, 2022. This was a journey during a zoom meeting of the Weather Shamanism class hosted by Jan Kinsey. In prior meetings we had journeyed to meet Air, Fire and Water Beings.
Called in our spirit allies and created sacred space.
We started by sinking into the earth where we were at. Sinking, sinking. Jan then said to not sink very far. Use our senses to feel what was around us, what was going on around us. I could feel movement, currents going by. Close to the surface in the soil layers, there was so much life! It was like a teeming, wild rainforest full of wild creatures and they had so many calls. It seemed to stretch on endlessly. It was cacophonous in a way. So many forms of life. Once past this lively, loud area of the microorganism world and all the fairy beings that work with them. Sinking, sinking down into bedrock.
Then Jan said to ask for an Earth Being to come and meet you. Jan then said ask for a fairy earth king or queen to come.
That was a pretty tall order and I questioned my worthiness to ask for someone so big. I remembered that RJ Stewart taught us that there are many fairy kings and queens. Not just one, like a monotheistic religion. So I was content to ask for a local fairy king/queen.
What I got was the deva of the mountain chains which surround the Salish Sea (Puget Sound), including all the bedrock below the Salish Sea. This was the over-lighting deva of all these rock masses. I know the geology of the region is complex with many types and ages of stone masses. Some of them rafted in from the Pacific. Others are from subduction zone sediments then lifted into the air. There is also penetrations by volcanoes and lava. Each type of stone mass had its own deva over-lighting it. An individual mountain might have just one, or multiple, stone masses in it. In which case there is a mountain deva but it has within its aura (so to speak) elements of all the stone masses represented. Some stone masses can stretch for up to 100 miles. Others are smaller. Some stone masses are dispersed over different parts of the landscape. I was shown a time lapse of the earth’s surface and over time it is like a heaving mass with stone masses rising and sinking. The big stone deva said that they had very, very, very, very long lifetimes. They could be assigned a mountain chain from the time it is young till it is ground away. They also suggested I look more closely into the information about the expanding earth theory. All planets and moons in the solar system are expanding according to this theory. Very slowly of course.
Every rock face on a mountain is eyes for the stone beings to look out on the surface world. The exposed stone is their eyes. Their bodies go deep into the earth, miles and miles. Stone masses can be very big. Some are totally subterranean rock masses and do not break the surface. There are crystalline masses and ore bodies. Geology is complex and there are earth deva beings associated with all parts and types of it.
Jan said to ask our new gnome friend what are your roles? What do you do? They said they work with temperatures, pressures, flows, crystalizing, volcanoes, lava. They are the beings who work with ley lines and the flows of energy into and through the earth. Ley lines do not just run across the surface of the land. They can penetrate into and through the earth. Go to the core and bounce up at a new trajectory. So a ley line map would have to be 3-dimensional.
I learned recently that every stone, no matter how small, is connected to the consciousness of that stone mass deva where it came from.
The earth fairies/devas also work with all the mineral particles in the soil. Each stone, pebble and mineral particle in the soil is the domain of the stone gnomes. .
Jan said to ask the Earth Beings how we can help them. I was standing in the presence of some mighty big devas in charge of rock masses and mountains. So BIG!. So old! How can little old me help? They told me there was something we could do for them. A lot of our human activity on the surface of the earth was irritating the skin of the Earth. They may be big beings but the ones on the surface had irritated skin and they would like us to fix that by working with the land to have the healthiest, most alive soils possible. Degraded soils, bad farming processes, accelerated erosion, desertification, mining, etc was causing them discomfort. After all, they want Earth to be in a state of vibrant health everywhere. Humanity’s collective bad vibes were also distressful to them. Wars, anger, hatred, oppression, fear, whining, depression, greed, etc. So they want us humans to clean up our act spiritually and emotionally, so that the world is full of pleasant vibes and not unpleasant vibes.
Then Jan said it was time to finish up and could we give a gift to the Earth Beings. I cast about for some idea of a gift and came up with – I blended with all my spirit allies and as a united being we gave the deva a kiss. Kinda rare to get a kiss from a blended human/fairy/power animal/sidhe/dragon/color being.
In our small-group Darin pointed out that we humans are supposed to love the land where we live. We should love every piece of land even the paved, damaged and ugly pieces of land. Every human should love the lands where they live and where they travel. Keep giving love to the land. This is another way we can help the Earth Beings.
RJ. Stewart teaches about a zone far down in the planet which is the realm of “The Shining Ones”. They are very, very big Earth Beings/Energies. So there are other layers of Earth Beings as we go deeper into the planet.
Thelma said by the time Jan told us to not go too deep she was already down to the core of the plant and worked with the crystalline energies there.
Between all of us 26 humans attending we had some interesting journeys to the realm of the Earth Beings. Thanks Jan.
